Dumpling Festival Today 12 June 2013

Today according to the Chinese or Lunar Calendar is 5th day of 5th Moon

so it is Dumpling Festival Day

 Happy Dragon Boat Festival! 端午節快樂！Today the Chinese celebrate by racing dragon boats and eating rice dumplings (or 'zongzi')...shown in my art piece above  According to legend, these rice dumplings were created to commemorate the death of Qu Yuan, a famous Chinese poet. Wu Yuan drowned in a river and rice dumplings were thrown into the river to prevent fish from eating him.
