天安門廣場 Tiananmen Square

Today we stepped back into History and visited Tiananmen Square and the Mao Zedong Memorial
Tiananmen Square as seen from the Monument to the People's Heroes in 1988

Tiananmen Square is a large city square in the center of Beijing, China, named after the Tiananmen gate (Gate of Heavenly Peace) located to its North, separating it from the Forbidden City. Tiananmen Square is the fourth largest city square in the world (440,000 m2 – 880×500 m or 109 acres – 960×550 yd). It has great cultural significance as it was the site of several important events in Chinese history.
Before we could do so we had to create our own history.....by visiting this place.....wow!!! even the public toilet looked historical!!!!
This will go down in the annals of the Tay history: a portrait of the adventurous members who were able to embark on this journey....

The Tiananmen Gate to the Forbidden City was built in 1415 during the Ming Dynasty.

The Tiananmen Square protests of 1989, commonly known as the June Fourth Incident (六四事件) or more accurate language as '89 Democracy Movement (八九民运) in Chinese, were student-led popular demonstrations in Beijing which took place in the spring of 1989 and received broad support from city residents, exposing deep splits within China's political leadership.

June 4 Massacre :  troops with assault rifles and tanks inflicted casualties on unarmed civilians trying to block the military's advance towards Tiananmen Square in the heart of Beijing,

The protests were forcibly suppressed by hardline leaders who ordered the military to enforce martial law in the country's capital. The crackdown that initiated on June 3–4 became known as the Tiananmen Square Massacre or the

The scale of military mobilization and the resulting bloodshed were unprecedented in the history of Beijing, a city with a rich tradition of popular protests in the 20th century.
