KUALA LUMPUR, June 22 — The mother of the emaciated 15-year-old found home alone, covered in filth and dressed in a tattered T-shirt has refuted claims of child neglect, saying she did not know how to get aid from the Welfare Department.
The 40-year-old woman, a single parent from Tawau, Sabah, said she was unable to care for her son who is physically handicapped and had been looking to put him in a home, Malay daily Berita Harian reported today,
“It’s not that I don’t love him, but I think that’s the best option for his future,” the mother, who was not named, was quoted saying.
“Not only am I financially strapped, but I also don’t have enough time because my working hours are not fixed.”
According to news reports, Immigration officials stumbled upon the 15-year-old boy during a raid to flush out illegals in Nilai, Negri Sembilan.
The teen, who was little more than a bag of bones, was found home alone in his Taman Semarak flat yesterday, covered in faeces and wearing a torn T-shirt without any trousers.
Immigration officers stunned to find the emaciated disabled teenager during their operation. The chance discovery might have saved his life. 

The flat unit was reportedly filthy with used polystyrene packs scattered all over the place.

The boy who was found in the Semarak Garden Flat in Nilai yesterday morning is recovering at Tuanku Jaafar Hospital in Seremban after recieving treatment from a doctor.

Faizal Fazri Othman, the Director of Immigration visited him and said he was "lebih terurus" more well cared for.  He was given a hiarcut,, heis tummy was not concave as he had been given food and he was calm and contented after being nursed with utmost care and love from doctors and nurses.

Berita Harian reported the child’s mother, who works at a catering company at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, as saying that she worked from 8am to 4pm, and from 4pm to midnight every day.
She was quoted as saying that she would leave food for her child before going to work, but he would scatter the food everywhere.
“It’s dry food and because I can’t afford to buy diapers, he defecates everywhere. When I come back home from work, I’m too exhausted to clean the room. And it so happened that yesterday, there was no water at home, so I couldn’t clean it,” she said.
She also said her son had a habit of biting his clothes, denying she abused him.
Citing Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Rohani Abdul Karim, news reports say the teen’s parents are divorced with the father estranged from the family.
The boy has been sent to a hospital for treatment since being rescued by the Immigration officers and is reportedly in a stable condition.
However, doctors are still trying to find out how the teen, who is reportedly malnourished, lost so much weight
