Whirlwind Weekend Singaporeans in KL

My niece, her husband and family surprised me with a visit on my pre-birthday  weekend!! I received his SMS late, my phone was all clogged  up with undeleted messages and when I got round to doing it, his msg appeared, by then it was late evening.  So I rushed out and was caught in this Friday night jam!!! At first I was very happy when I breezed along Jln Cheras....so nice!no jam! Then as I turned into Loke Yew......this is what greeted me!
Just look at the unmoveable traffic! And this is only Jalan Loke Yew, I have not even entered Bukit Bintang. Dear City Hall, pls take note, you make Jalan Cheras so nice with multi-lanes but once we hit Loke Yew, it is back to Square One!
Look at me, I was so bored I could even take pictures of the facade of Pudu Jail....take a good look...it is in the process of been bulldozed...

This once had the dubious honour of being the longest mural done by a single person (sadly, an inmate of Pudu Jail) and entered the Malaysian Book of records ...it is now in its faded glory

While waiting for the lights to change to allow me to turn to BJT, Metrojaya in Berjaya Times Square closed its doors (Metrojaya is now closed...replaced by DEBENHAMS)

In my folly, I took them to Jalan Alor (to experience a slice of ye olde Kuala Lumpur) but I forgot it was a death-defying stunt to cross KL roads, especially Sungai Wang area!!! KL has the most unfriendly pedestrian  crossing ever, and for a family with kids!!!! what was I thinking!!!  I also fed them with snatch theft stories...the kind that goes on motor bikes and drag you along until you die from an unwoken coma  three days later. (I spared them the pervert child snatcher story though....hmmph)

I have a confession to make, I have NEVER been to Jalan Alor!!!! But I have heard and read so much about it (apart from it being a red light district once upon a time) but I know it is a food haven and hawker delight.
Cruising around looking for chicks....err.. I mean seats.
My nephew in law and his gorgeous son. He has thick black eye lashes that flutter when you talk to him.
Nice or not? Take your pick! Jalan Alor never sleeps.
Once, DBKL nearly wanted to change the name Jalan  Alor into something inspiring, but you know what? the foreigners did not allow it! (of course and the locals too, only the mat sallehs have more say)

Tantalising you with an array of dishes.....(soliciting!)
We finally chose this shop....ikan bakar

My lovely, talented and precocious neice, she could read flash cards of chinese characters at little more than a year old.  Now she has her own facebook a/c, email...the works.

Poor little grand nephew was not too well, and the KL rain and shower was no help, but he was very good...no tantrums or fits

Sun Chui Yuen Restaurant.....the whole bill with prawns, fish, tauhu, chicken came to eighty plus ringgit only for five people.

Sizzling clay pot tofu that sizzled for a long time

Everybody's favourite: Butter Prawns. I would have prefered they sat outside the shop along the street, that would yielded me fantastic photos!!! Singapore family dinner at Jalan Alor!

Next morning, (after more jams!! From Bukit Bintang to Pudu to Petaling Street)  we went to Petaling Street.
Wet, wet noon....boy was still unwell but being a very good sporting boy!!
Nephew in law wanted to look for the famous "twa tiou mee", I think he meant Hokkien Mee
We found it, but it only served dinner.......at this time only the chee cheong fun stall operates
so we settle for the "famous" porridge ..... narrow stall opening, but they had tables opposite
I think the porridge is nothing great: it is either pork ball or fish, but the consistency of the gruel was smooth and thick.
Little girl was very good at choosing stuff, she looks at all the price tags (only 1 ringgit!) and earlier she chose beautiful princess kite for herself and Cars (that's Steve Mcqueen!) kite for bro.

She picked out keyboard stickers....a good choice: only RM3.00, I also bought one, hey, I don't go to Petaling Street eveyday, you know.

Then we went to Mid Valley, (fighting more jams along the way) and met Transformers

So tired, I also wish I could ride in the cart!
I told you they were both very good kids, with even temperament and no fighting, must credit their parents for being good disciplinarians. Once, they even hugged each other after having been separated for a short time......she in girls' toilet, he in boys' toilet!!
Then we went back to  Berjaya Times  Square Hotel.  My nephew in law took one look out his hotel window and the sight of a massive traffic gridlock made him messaged me not to trouble myself to come to  the hotel again later that evening.  Both of us were very "paiseh" with the jam! He for "putting" me through it, and me for having to make them face the jam!! So malu! So embarrassing to have to bring visitors around and getting stuck in bottle neck traffic everywhere. (I can remember the time when we missed a church wedding!!)
Getting ready for dinner. Beautiful little Z....I complimented her

In a flash she jumped on the stool to look into the mirror! Matching pink bag, stole and pink outfit!
Dinner at Big Apple...very posh, very quiet but no good selection of ala carte food

Z loved her spaghetti carbonara, her bro was too sick to eat.  I brought medicine for him.

The Big Apple Restaurant .........hope you had a lovely weekend...sorry for the bad traffic, but it will not get any better, weekdays are just as bad, even worse with the office and school crowd!
But apart from that.......KL is still value for money..

New Moon Opening Night

If Grandpa is undergoing second childhood, I am undergoing second teenhood!!! Here I am with my pre-teen going ga-ga over NEW MOON, the second movie in the quad-logy (if got trilogy, also got quad logy mah) of Twilight series. Actually it was first daughter who bought tickets for opening night at Leisure Mall, because she wanted to treat the maids for looking after her so well (people who have sojourned in Australia, like my youngest sister too, really appreciate the fact that Malaysia can still have maids....!!!)

Thanks to the school holidays, we can have the luxury of seeing movies on opening night!!
promotional poster outside the cineplex

Big sis and small sis 12 years apart...next year they will be two tigresses (tiger year)
Big sis paid for all our tix!!

see? the poster says : opening night "26 November 2009"...in Malaysia anyway (I get a kick out of seeing it before everyone else raves about it)

The 2 maids....oops!!! camera shake!!
Even the 2 boys came along (E and my son K)..oooooops!!!! even more camera shake!!!!
Tuti says she has to wait another year for Number Three, by then she will be in Indonesia

Life is too good to last but we're too young to see (BUT OLD ENOUGH TO APPRECIATE!!!)

Now Big girl will read the book, she has a "don't read the book before the show" rule!!!

Choose me or choose him!!!

Jacob's secret is revealed...whatssamatter with that girl, either she falls for a vampire or a wolf!

Don't you just love the taglines? "forbidden to remember, terrified to forget" (describes our first loves, our forbidden fruits, our furtive adventures right?)

The pose in the foreground copies the old vampire movies
