KUALA LUMPUR: A 61-year old British consultant was injured during an explosion at his 17th floor condominium unit at Persiaran H off Jalan Ampang earlier tonight.
The explosion at the unit at Block B of H. Park Condominium, gutted the unit and showered debris of smashed glass windows and chunks of concrete blocks for at least 200 metrees away.
Authorities believed the explosion was caused by a gas leak and the victim who is attached with AET Tanker Holdings Sdn Bhd, lived alone.
The victim was believed to have suffered 70 percent burns and was taken to Prince Court Hospital.
The explosion rocked the surrounding buildings and the impact caused the glass windows of the units located several floors above and below it, to shatter.
Even the elevator doors of the 17th floor showed dents caused by the impact of the explosion.
Firemen had to trek up the staircases to get to the unit and used a skylift to put out the fire.
The explosion almost demolished the whole unit except for the bathroom.
Resident Daniela Semeraro, 42, said she was watching televison with her husband in their unit on the 12th floor of the same block when the explosion happened.
“We were shocked to hear the a loud bang. All the glass windows shattered and even the tiles on the walls fell off.
“We immediately ran out and came down using the staircases” she said.

Very sad and disturbing. The expatriate died a few days later.
