12 June 2011 Father's Day Lunch

To celebrate Father's Day, we went to this antiquated cafe before it gets discontinued! (Had always wanted to go to another restaurant housed in a heritage building called  Le Coq Dor but always waited, till one day everybody woke up to find it demolished to the ground!)

The interior...like a step back in time....transport yourself to the 1920s and pretend you are an affluent family so westernised and wise to the steak eating ways of the orang putih.
the cashier asked me to take this picture of a Malay Mail page advertising the restaruant dated October 20, 1921, the year it was established.
this place is known for its sizzling steaks!
Our order: Ox Tail Soup RM8.50...thick and creamy with a big chunk of oxtail
French Onion Soup RM7.90.....er...a bit bland
mine: Norwegian Salmon....RM36.90...crispy skin and not too filling
son's: Grill Tenderloin Rare, RM39.90
Daughter's: Chicken Corden Bleu RM24.90
Dad's: S.T. Bone Steak RM39.90
Accompaniments: sauces, dips and salads
Water costs 50 cents per glass! Our bill came up to RM185.60
original crockery!
blur pic bec someone took it for us!
the antique bar and below: just like what rich families had in their sitting room, long long ago.
After lunch, we walked along Batu Road and checked out Coliseum Cinema right next door. I remember this:
Rows if posters advertising movies to be shown. When I was young, my big sister would take us to Odeon or Rex or Cathay to check what shows are coming, just like the above, and we will wait excitedly for the next show that we would like to watch!!!

Read this sad story about Colisuem Cinema here....

"Why me?” Dr Chua, 68, said with tears in his eyes.

Dr Chua Seong Siew looking distressed as he stands in front of the Coliseum Cinema which is owned by him. He is crying foul that the Government is taking over the almost century-old building, one of the oldest landmarks in Kuala Lumpur, which will be gazetted as a National Heritage Centre. The Coliseum was bought by Dr Chua's mother from a family estate in 1947.
After he fought successfully to keep his cinema, he passed away a few years ago.

An interesting read on the restaurant:
