Internet users, including controversial rapper Namewee, have created several parody videos to mock Sharifah Zohra Jabeen.
UPDATED
PETALING JAYA: Public scorn against Suara Wanita 1Malaysia (SW1M) president Sharifah Zohra Jabeen continues to pile up as more parody videos mocking her are posted on Youtube.
One person who had an axe to grind with Sharifah’s behaviour was controversial rapper Namewee.
The SW1M president drew flak after a 24-minute video of her berating law undergraduate KS Bawani at a forum held at Universiti Utara Malaysia went viral on the Internet.
When Bawani had posed questions on free education and Bersih, Sharifah interrupted the undergraduate by saying “listen” and “let me speak” several times.
She also snatched the microphone from Bawani and said that the undergraduate should move to another country if she wanted free education and added that even animals had problems.
However, Sharifah did not attempt to answer the questions posed by Bawani and her condescending attitude received applause from other undergraduates in attendance.
Namewee, in a three-minute clip posted on Youtube, was seen mimicking Sharifah, saying “listen” and “let me speak” many times in the video.
“You cannot compare us with other countries but you can compare us with a ‘kucing’ (cat) in Cuba, ‘tikus’ (rat) in Argentina and ‘anjing’ (dog) in Malaysia. Because the animals are happy with their government,” said Namewee.
He also mocked Sharifah’s statement that any gathering with more than three people was considered “haram” (illegal).
“So when you eating with your mother, grandmother and daughter, you are ‘haram’ (illegal),” he added.
In the forum, Sharifah also said that adults must always be respected and accused Bawani of receiving “the least of education” for allegedly being “impolite”.
However, Namewee had a rebuttal to Sharifah’s comment, saying: “So next time when you get raped by an adult, you must undress yourself and show your %&^ and press like on the rapist’s *&*$%.”
Another singer, known only Mr Bie, also took a swipe at Sharifah’s attitude by posting a song titled “Listen!”
“Bila ku tanya soalan, tiba-tiba kau potong jalan, merampas mikrofon and say listen, listen, listen ( When I ask questions, you came in between, take away the microphone and say listen, listen. Listen,” he crooned.
Pusat Aduan Haiwan 1Malaysia
In a related development, a Facebook page had been created for animals to lodge complaints following Sharifah’s remark that animals should be given the space to air their grouses since their problems were at times greater than that of humans.
Dubbed Pusat Aduan Haiwan 1Malaysia (PAH1M), the page also contained an “interview with a pig” which complained that Jakim had not accorded it the “halal status”.
Also posted was a complaint from a chicken, which said: “Since the coming of ‘ayam’ (chickens) from China and Philippines, local ‘ayam’ no longer have value.”
The page, which had drawn more than 4,000 “likes”, also stated that the Solidariti Lembu Malaysia had given a positive response to the formation of PAH1M.
In an obvious referrence to the NFC fiasco, Solidariti Lembu Malaysia said: “We are grateful that Sharifah is championing our rights. For a long time, we have been insulted… we were once promised condominiums, but the condominiums are in Singapore. We don’t have passports.”
The PAH1M page also stated that when Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali was asked for comment, he had responded: “What am I to comment, I am not an animal!”
It added that apart from animals, it is hoped that Sharifah would also understand the plight of plants and rivers.
Police report and protest
In another development, the Malaysian Indian Progressive Association (MIPAS), with the support of Tamillar Action Force (TAF), Angkatan WargaAMAN Malaysia (WargaAMAN) and Power, will lead a protest gathering against Sharifah this Saturday at Brickfields.
They also plan to lodge a report against the SW1M president.
“She had misused her position and acted arrogantly and also humiliated Bawani in the forum which was attended by some 2,000 student’s,” MIPAS said in a statement today.
