1st Day at Janda Baik, Bentong

Last weekend (8 and 9 January 2011) a few of us managed to go on a family trip to a nearby homestead called Tanarimba at Janda Baik, near Bukit Tinggi at Bentong.

It is accessed via the Genting Sempah tunnel on the way to Genting Highlands using the Karak Highway.
You then take the winding road up to Bentong...very remote and rustic...and deserted

suddenly you are greeted by a plethora of signsone of which is TANARIMBA

we have reached the entrance of the retreat we are looking for: by the exotic name of Tanarimba (I think it means foresty land)
We are the earliest so we hammed it up for the camera
and I did the tree hugging stunt

pine trees

This is actually the office and conference room

It won an architectuaral award
We had to drive to the Enderomg house where we were booked for the night
Awesome massive 3 storey timber and log cabin. "Log cabin" is a misnomer, it is HUGE.

Every family could have their own room and space
the foyer and cool shoe rack
country style kitchen with an open concept

waiting for the others to arrive at the spacious verandah
The top part is our room! Third level! The only room with a balcony, jacuzzi and outdoor bath

My room with the long balcony and patio

sunken outdoor bath
Rain shower under the stars minus the roof
I did not realize Bentong is cool (cold even!) and there was no need for air conditioning
play of light and air in my roomextra bed is for my son, if only he were here!
View outside the window: misty and dreamy, perfect getaway for the jaded city soul
since it was not lunch yet, we went to check out the swimming pool and its surrounds

Lunch: pot luck, everyone brought something to share
This became the food counter: everyone came here later for chocolates, bread, tid bits...

Tai Koo's roast chicken, fragrant, tender and yummy!
Vegetarian curry"chicken"
Everyone decided to go to the pool again..this dog is always basking in the middle of the road

Whose legs? They belonged to Kate Lyn
They did not even know they were cousins and the same age too!

leaf bug!

Taking the same shot of this house! (Where we stayed, they are standing at the annexe house)

These two spent hours catching guppies and had to be called back for dinner.

Dinner was at Janda Baik villageSleepy and laidback, but I love it. I hope it does not get ravaged by development and progress.
See....parking is a breeze! So is crossing the road.
We needed 3 tables joined together!

After dinner we had board games at the verandah : CRANIUM!:- charade, monopoly, spelling bee, scrabble and cluedo all rolled into one!!! This game really cracks your cranium, if not your brain!
BEST FAMILY BONDING TIME!
