This news item appeared in the newspapers on March 22, 2011.  Ivan's car was stolen in the same manner on 30/31 March 2011.  If he had read this article, he would have been forewarned!!!

The events were exactly the same, he left the key in the car and he gave chase, and even got a motorcycle t help him give chase! The only difference is that he had no child in the car.

Young car-jack victim reunited with dad

PORT DICKSON: A man left his four-year-old son alone in the car with the engine running for a quick dash to the store and came back only to see the car being driven off, with the boy inside.



Fortunately, the boy was found unharmed about 25km away in Malacca almost five hours later after police placed an all points bulletin following a report by the 31-year-old father.


Police found the boy still inside the car near a newly completed housing project at about 1.15am yesterday in Masjid Tanah, Malacca.
The car engine was still running and its headlights were switched on.



OCPD Supt Baljeet Singh said the man, a civil servant, had gone to a grocery store in Pasar Panjang to buy household stuff at about 8.25pm on Sunday with his son.
The boy is the third of four siblings.
“The man thought it was all right to leave his son in the car as he was going to spend only a couple of minutes in the store.
“However, when he came out less than five minutes later, he was shocked to see the car being driven away. He tried to chase after it but to no avail,” Supt Baljeet said.
Several people who heard the man's cries then gave chase on their motorcycles but the vehicle, a Toyota Unser, was nowhere to be seen.
The man rushed to the Pasir Panjang police station to lodge a report. Police then mounted roadblocks in the area.
Officers on patrol duty in Masjid Tanah spotted the car and notified their counterparts here.
“They found the boy and took him to hospital for a medical check-up. He was unharmed,” he said
However, he said the boy was traumatised by the ordeal.
