On the Scene (OnD Scene) Bus on fire. 22 October 2010

I follow ON D Scene's blog (On the Scene) because he has the most up to date pcitures (sometimes same day itself) of accidents and mishaps...mostly in the city. That is not to say I like to look at gory pictures or photos of dead bodies bleeding on the road...but because he seems to be very spot on, and you can be sure of getting the details and blow by blow account of any disaster you want.
However, today, I had my own on the scene moment!!!
It all started with this SMS...we had to deliver our exam scripts to the bilik Kebal.

I was at the Brickfields post office to post off the parcels, got lost, as roads were closed and there were detours here, detours there with no signage to help the hapless driver.....I tried to get to Jalan Raja Muda Aziz. I was ahead of the other cars when I saw smoke billowing in the distance. All traffic had stopped.
Gosh!!! Very, very thick blanket of smoke spewing out from an unidentifiable vehicle and fast acting men dousing it with fire extinquishers....in vain. I did not know which way to go.

If I go left, what if the bus explode and I get hit by jetson flying my way. I do not want to meet my end that way....

If I go the other way, it is the wrong way for me...I will end up in Pudu (which was what I did, because you can see that the other side has poor visibility and was virtually unpasseable.

Anyway, I could only wait in my car and snap photos.

Soon, the whole sky was filled with noxious fumes that blocked all sight. Not wanting to be a kay poh anymore I fled the scene and ended on the wrong route.
I was the last to be at the bilik kebal to hand in my stuff to Miss Tan Mun Mui, but what an adventure I had!!

Dinner at Yee Heong Restaurant, Puchong 10.10.10

How did you spend your 10.10.10? After all the media hype, we spent it quietly, with an open house at Pn Syuhada's and a simple dinner at Puchong.

with Ivan minus Sue...click on picture to enlarge...unresized picture.
We drove around Jalan Kenari and decided on this chinese restaurant because there was lots of parking. Click on picture to enlarge.....another unresized picture. The rest that follow are all resized.

Yee Heong restaurant is your typical eatery with tables and plastic chairs spilling onto the five foot way and car park.

I think it is famous for its soups, soupy based food and claypot bak kut teh.

Look what we ordered. Actually, we just looked at the illustrated board, pointed and asked for them!

We had the signature beancurd (signboard braised beancurd)

Minced tauhu with meat and other goodies (don't know what but tasted good) fried crispy outside....everybody liked it.

It was time I introduced the children to the Hakka side of them....they had to try hakka stew pork or kow yok.

Only five pieces of pork sandwiched among yam slices!

Kow Yok or keow nguk is five layed pork stewed with fermented tauhu and served with yam

Tried to take a shot of the five layered pork (hard to find, must be expensive) steeped in five spice...the children had not tasted it before, and it is a common dish in Kajang.

Next we had boiled pig stomach in peppercorn soup, my favourite food when I was young

this is what the soup looked like, Ah Q used to buy a bowl of this soup from the travelling (on bicycle) seller who sold this soup at 3 in the afternoon....I remember seeing him slurp the soup ..so nice, just perfect 3 hours after lunch, and three hours before dinner (our dinner was at 6!)
Then we had claypot pork ribs bak kut teh......yummy, hot and lots of meat!!!

Our drunken chicken soup tasted like what I had for confinement!!! smellt of rice wine and too much ginger taste for my husband!

These are some of the other dishes that we did not order....

Delicious dinner, quick and fast (most of the dishes were precooked) and affordable too!

Ikea!!!

One Friday, 8 October, 2010, we went to Ikea to buy Detolf shelves for the archive. This trip has been put off many times, and we were supposed to go last Friday after the Form 6 exam as arranged by Choy Meng. It did not materialised as I felt tired after school and went home to catch up on my sleep!!! I re-scheduled it and this time Choy Meng could not make it...these other kids did!

I waited in my car for a long time!! No wonder! These girls took time to change into their retail therapy gear.
First...we must go for the infamous IKEA MEATBALLS!!! We took one big plate (10 ballies) and 2 kids' meal (5 ballies)...3 mushroom soups, kampung rice and vegie dish for vegan Dhilip.

Saying grace already? Shouldn't we wait till we get a table?

Peng Seng moved just as I was trying to take his photo, Yuen Wai is hot on his heels.
Don't you just dig the cute innovative food trolley?

Vegetarian pasta

Kampung Fried Rice with chicken wing

Meatballs!

Meatballs! Meatballs!

soup soup soupclose up shot of vegetarian pasta...he did not like it...he did not finish it....

We ate at leisure, and I was fascinated by the many different lamps used by Ikea for the dining hall

this is one of them

Yin Tong under the lamp
lamp no 2
lamp no 3
lamp no 4 ....which lamp would you choose for your dining room?
Ikea ice cream is also de rigeur (how to spell ah)

the serious business of buying the racks
black and white shelf
Luckily we had 3 refills of coffee, cuppucino and soft drinks!!!! to give us the strength!

Friday is a good day to shop...ample parking, minimal jam .... a breeze to drive back to MBS
so happy, such a fun outing!
Wish Uncle Wong give us more money to do this more often!!!
