Sang Har Meen at Lake Club

Have not been to Lake Club for ages so I made a trip there after the Intercity meeting to renew my cards and get a car sticker for my Honda Insight Hybrid.

Dropped by at Buttery for lunch while the admin processed my cards and car sticker...have not been to Buttery like, about 10 years?
Gosh! I miss the local coffee!!! It has now gone up to RM2.00.  Still so cheap!!!! and I could get 2 and a half cups from the pot!!!

wow!!! My sang har meen arrived! whopping big plate for one person!
look at the freshwater prawn!!! Only one. but it was sizeable!!
Hmmm om nom nom.....I loved the gravy, the noodles, the chives, and the prawns....
asked for chilli padi and waiter gave me all three chillies: red, pickled green and green chilli padi..forgot that I could self-service and help myself at the condiments station....this shows how long I have not been here.
This mee costs RM15.00 and my lunch is RM17.00, without GST,....cheap or expensive?
Delicious though!!! Next time must share this with someone, it upset my diet for the day hehehe!!

Public lecture on democracy and human rights in the Commonwealth

Wednesday April 18, 2012

I have not been to my club for over a year!!!! Popped into the old Buttery for lunch!
How I missed the kopi-o!!! It's very black and thick: Really KAU!!!

Was invited for this Public lecture, and it piqued my interest to hear what his views on "democracy and human rights" in Malaysia were.
changed from my school "work clothes" into "smart casual/office wear" dress code.  At the banquet hall, I have not been here for ages.  Used to love watching movies here with my eldest daughter.
The Honourable Senator has arrived

17 year old law student asked a question on violation
of humans rights in Malaysia,
but the Senator's lips are sealed!!

Public lecture on democracy and human rights in the Commonwealth

THERE will be a public lecture on Democracy, Human Rights and Civil Liberties: The Commonwealth Experience at the Royal Lake Club on April 18.
Giving the lecture at the Banquet Hall at 5pm will be Senator Hugh Segal, Canada’s Special Envoy for Commonwealth Renewal.
He is also a member of the Commonwealth Eminent Persons Group (EPG), which former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi chairs.
“Senator Segal, a prominent member of the EPG, is expected to provide an overview on the Commonwealth experience relating to Democracy, Human Rights and the Rule of Law and the future direction it will take,” said Gandhi Memorial Trust of Malaysia chairman S. Radhakrishnan.
The trust is organising the lecture.
“The EPG was established to improve the Commonwealth’s reputation on human rights,” Radhakrishnan added.
He said the Commonwealth spanned every continent and contained every major world religion, adding that there were 800 million Hindus, 500 million Muslims and 400 million Christians who lived in the Commonwealth.
Radhakrishnan said admission to the public lecture was free.

the senator also had a forum on Monday at the Law faculty, Uni Malaya, but I did not feel like
fighting with the traffic to get there.

Douglas Lim: Stand up comedy Show at Royal Lake Club, 15 May 2009

On Friday, May 15 2009, we went for Douglas Lim's Stand up comedy dinner and show at the Royal Lake Club. Me and my escort outside the Banquet Hall. Dress code: Lounge Suit for men, smart casual semi formal for ladies. I am dressed in Elle top and pants, with my trusty Carlo Rino bag and Charles Keith platform wedges from Vivo City, Singapore.

Douglas Lim and his special brand of "china man" humour. He is not so well known outside of Malaysia and he was last seen in a local sit-com: Kopitiam.

He touched on a lot of Malaysian politics, and poked fun at the local polticians' goofs and gaffs.

He also made spoofs of the three races...all in all quite harmless good fun!

I caught a shot of him running towards the podium after his introduction.

Before the show started, I headed for the Ladies and saw him standing at the offing, waiting for his cue and excitedly asked for a pix with him! His manager (a stylish lady took it for us)

dessert: Baked Philadelphia cheesecake

Ken's main course: pan seared sirloin beef with asparagus pink pepper and corn sauce

my mains: grilled red snapper with olive oil and Balsemic vinegar

the menu

we enjoyed our dinner...not as lavish as the Expat's Wine dinner though

RM80 for member, RM100 for Ken (he is considered non-member) expensive or not?

from my son:

On Friday night went for dinner and stand up comedy by Douglas Lim, one of the cast of Kopitiam from way back at Lake Club. Events at the club would always mean a chance to rub shoulders with Datuks and foreigners which is fun. Everybody is always very warm and friendly. I will admit that it was not as funny as i expected it to be but funny enough. He made a lot of jokes on race, government servants, Singaporeans, the situation in Perak, Chua Soi Lek, Amber Chia and Najib.

The final and presumably the punchline of the night was a joke about how he wished he could be Najib not because he had all that power, but because he could drive his car on Jalan Tun Razak at 20km/h while going left, right, left and right again until somebody would drive up next to his car, unwind the window, and scream, "Your father's road ah?".
