Leap Day 29 FEBRUARY 2012

2012 is a leap year, meaning that February, the shortest month, has an extra day, bringing the year to 366 days. This notable event comes only every four years. Which means you have an extra 24 hours.

When is it? An extra day is added to the month of February every four years. This year, Leap Day is on Wednesday, February 29.

Why we need Leap Day: Usually, our year is 365 days long. Except that it's not: A full cycle of seasons is actually 365 days, 5 hours, 49 minutes, and 16 seconds long, or about 365.25 days. Over time, the extra quarter of a day adds up, and without Leap Day, the calendar would be one day out of sync with the seasons. After 30 years, it would be about a week off, and after 100 years, it would be nearly a month off.

A Melbourne woman has successfully sprung a leap year day proposal on her unsuspecting boyfriend at a restaurant overlooking the Yarra River.
Belinda Squires had staff at the Italian restaurant in Southbank insert a note into the lunch menu before handing it to her boyfriend of three years, Jason Gately, shortly after midday

The note read: "Happy leap year my darling Jason, you look lovely today, I love you very much, will you marry me, Belinda xxx".
Ms Squires, 42, said she just wanted to give her man a "special surprise" and "share it with everybody".
"I thought, he's always surprising me, and bringing me gifts home and flowers for no reason," she said.
"And he only has to celebrate [this occasion] once every four years."

SO

What to wear to PTA certificate presentation?

Last Saturday, 25 February, 2012 was the school's AGM
and certificate presentation for the 2011 outgoing AJK
(Committee members)

It is a formal school affair, no sleeveless or overtly short dresses,
or clothes that breached modesty decorum
(menjolok mata)
yet I did not want to look over dressed or too dowdy
I did not feel like wearing the national dress,
as it was held at the open hall,
without any airconditioning.

I wore this: a see through, chiffon printed blouse
from ORIOLI boutique in Bangsar.

It has pleated details on both sleeves
and also tucks on the shoulders.
Chiffon caresses your skin, is silky soft and keeps
you cool through rising temperatures as the morning wore on!

The versatility of this blouse is that when I pair it with a brown skirt,
I am ready for the classroom.

Teamed with a playful, casual pair of brown
pedal pushers, I am ready for a girls' day out!
Token for all ex committee members of the PTA
I now have towels from Queens (above)
my previous boys' school, and a convent school.

My certificate for my 2011 tenure.
