April is Qing Bing or Grave Sweeping Month and due to a trip to Sydney for a wedding, our Qing Bing is on the last Sunday of festival
wow!! so much goodies for praying...whole chickens, siu yook, pomfrets, fruits, mushrooms, tauhu, peanuts, tea and wine, char siew pow, and ling yong pow, plus ang koo kueh
Tai Koo is the only one who knows what goes where, and the food was all prepared by Emelda, who ha been doing it for years now
Tai Koo is so particular and meticulous, there will be no one else like her next.....
Finally, everything was duly labelled and packed to go
No jams and no hassles, we arrived at Semenyih in a breeze
Beng praying at the altar overlooking scenic hills
paper cars and effigies for offering to the departed
clothes in all fashion too
now we are carrying all the stuff to the respective graves
walking among the tombs is much easier now with orderly graves and marbled walkways
easy to find too, as it was bright albeit cloudy
then we started to put the offerings at the correct places and tombs
just follow Tai Koo's labelling..without her we are lost
see the array of food?
chickens are "pak cham kai" (boiled white chicken) with head, feet and wings intact
everybody goes about their respective assigned tasks
Papa's job is to arrange the joss paper on the tombs
then the praying with josssticks started
Papa doesn't want the josspapers to fly off all over the place so he stuffs them into holes
and stuffs them in between the leaves
see the paper squeezed into the hole in the ground?
now a big trench is provided for burning joss papers
then we were treated to ice cream by Tai Koo! Papa looks incredulous and unbelieving!
Here you go! Chocolate and yam flavour
we are so happy savouring our lollies
Hmmmmmmm!!!!
Beng enjoying his ice cream
Back home we had brunch of the food
such a lot of food!!! also for our lunch, dinner and tea and elevenses
