Malioboro Street: :Looking for dinner/food!

Dinner at Malioboro Street 

It was getting late and we had explored quite a sizeable part of Malioboro Street and soaked up its sights and sounds....now it was time to look for food and our dinner.

 Time to leave the street musicians and local crowds behind and follow our food trail.

 Saw this diplayed on the roadside stall...?????.....looked like the innards of the cow swimming in saffron curry and are those hearts or spleens or galls skewered on a stick like fish balls!

 we can join the locals at the stalls but it was raining

 and the food looked very exposed to the elements

 Streets getting narrow with lots of people milling around

Still did not know what to eat...

 How about this ..... lesehan terang bulan malioboro

Lesehan Terang Bulan Malioboro

"Ever heard of the lesehan? Yaap!! It is the  famous with duck (and pigeons) is located on Jalan Malioboro, open every night starting at 21:00. 

This Lesehan on the sidewalk east Jl. Malioboro, approximately 10 minutes if leisurely walk from Dagen, and probably about 15 minutes if walking from Sosrowijayan to the south. It's right in front of the store Batik Terang Bulan. Bener buildup Lesehan Terang Bulan name is taken from it, simple right ?"

 This was a batik shop by day and converted into a lesehan stall by night.. 

Lesehan means the Javanese traditional restaurant which feature a traditional dine style seated on the floor covered with straw or bamboo

 Hahaha!!! We did not have the stomach to try sidewalk food even it is the famous Lesehan Terang Bulan Malioboro!

 We hastily walked past all the sidewalk eateries with people tucking in

 Then we saw these fairy lights......it was the entrance to the Malioboro Mall

and lo and behold!!! There was McDonalds!!!!

Nice mall! you can just walk in! No need to turn round in circles looking for a parking spot, not that we drove there though!

You did not expect us to have McDonald in Malioboro right? 

Yogyarkarta: Malioboro Street of Jogjakarta.

After arrival at the airport and checking in at Ibis, we were free for the rest of the day/night so we had Bakso for tea and set off for Jalan Malioboro.

DAY 01 (31 MAY) ARRIVAL YOGYAKARTA (-)

Arrival at Adi Sucipto Airport of Yogyakarta (JOG). You will be met & greet by local representative and transfer to check in hotel in Jogja. The rest of the day is free

Jalan Malioboro (Malioboro Street) is a major shopping street in Yogyakarta, Indonesia; the name is also used more generally for the neighborhood around the street. It lies north-south axis in the line between Yogyakarta Kraton and Mount Merapi.
The street is the centre of Yogyakarta's largest tourist district surrounded with many hotels, restaurants, and shops nearby. Sidewalks on both sides of the street are crowded with small stalls selling a variety of goods. In the evening several open-air street side restaurants, called lesehan, operate along the street. This is the street of the artists. Street musicians, painters, and other artists exhibit their creations on this road. Less obvious to the tourist, but more for the local population, side streets, lanes and structures that lead on to Malioboro are as important as the street itself.

It was drizzling and we got slight wet! 

But Papa was so excited to see the road sign and we took photo with my selfie stick and my hand shook from the wetness and cold, hehehe!!

Before that, we walked down the lane after eating Bakso to the main street of Malioboro. If you think it sounds like "Malboro" it does, it is the Yogyakarta corruption of Malboro.

 Note to all young non-Muslim ladies...how not to dress on the streets of Yogyakarta. She wore the sundress she bought from Ko Samui and it was strappy with bra straps peeking which is a definite no-no!!!  While walking along the corridors, right in front of my eyes, this man seated at his stall reached out to touch her shoulders and the bra straps!!!! I was flabbergasted but all I could do was glared hard at the man who averted my "angry mother" gaze and looked nonchalantly away!!!

She had already felt uneasy and felt so inappropriately dressed: CUE : look at how the other local girls/women are dressed.

Anyway....we walked along this backlane (later we took a rickshaw back as it rained) and took in the sights and sounds of Yogykarta in the evening. We are dressed so like tourists: he in his perennial formal clothes and camera gear, she in her swingy tiered sundress.

Papa was so excited to find Mc Donald's but it was only a stand, and sold only ice-cream!

Now we are at the corridors where all sorts of clothings, bags. etc can be bought.

Most of them costs Rupiah 300,000 or 10 ringgit.

She loves these baggy pants, like the ones in Ko Samui because they are extremely comfotable!

Then we saw horse carriages, which are iconic of Yogyakarta streets!

 

 so we posed and took photos like mad! hahaha!!!

Street was starting to get more and more bustling

Soon, the locals all came out

Quite happening and lots of people milling about!

See how this guy can make himself comfortable on the road!

This is the other exit from the castle, the one that opens into Malioboro Road.

Gate to Kraton Palace, which we would visit the next day.

Should have bought a selfie stick, because mine broke from my heavy use!!!
