Malay House for Hari Raya

Do you like this Malay village house?

completely liveable, has a little garden, with carved wooden awnings, doors with slats for natural ventilation,
wooden steps, potted plants, full lighting and working fans
railway sleepers lead to the steps of the kampung house
has fish traps raya oil lamps, baskets  and birdcage
but wait, what is that contraption behind the house?

It is not in a real village house but a replica of a house, and it got transplanted plank by plank here
see the inside of the shopping complex?
Lots of shoppers and tourists took photos, but alas, they were not allowed in! This house is the decor at the central atrium of Suria KLCC for Hari Raya.  It has been dismantled and removed.

Aishah's Open House

These two upper six Arts class of my old school had a reunion at Aishah's, one of
their classmate (and maybe the only Malay girl in the 2 forms) Open House, 1 September 2012

Pn Munni and I are two of the teachers who taught them.  A lot of the classmates have
gone back to college and university after the Hari Raya holidays. And these are the ones still in KL.
 Pn Munni and her husband
 with Dhilip and Kelvin

Lots of food but I came late so I did not go round
taking food pics
Loved this mutton ,though, Aishah's family does canteen catering so no wonder the food was good!
Awesome Malaysian dessert: rose coloured sago with coconut milk(white) and gula melaka(brown)
Held in Dato Onn school hall (It used to be San Peng School)
Nice pavilion for a spot of outdoor eating
Girls of Wesley and Peach classes..
Good to see them again...!

Disturbing Behaviour: 2 Cases

Witnessed 2 videos of incidents of disturbing behaviour today on Facebook in a space of a few minutes: both shows man's inhumanity towards man, especially if one is weaker and at the mercy of the other:

Case No 1:
Abuse of 19 year old mother-to-be
https://www.facebook.com/foxyfong

  • Source: https://www.facebook.com/foxyfong

HEY PEOPLE, THIS IS THE SECOND SESSION AFTER I CAME OUT FROM THE TOILET AFTER VOMITING. AS YOU CAN SEE IN THIS VIDEO AGAIN HE WOULDN'T ALLOW ME TO EXIT MY SHOP & HE SNATCH MY PHONE FROM CALLING MY MOTHER & EVEN BEAT ME WITH THE PHONE. EVEN MY NEIGHBOUR CAME TO OPEN THE DOOR TO HELP ME BUT SHE COULDN'T BECAUSE THE DOOR WAS LOCKED. MY MOM HAD REALLY SAVED MY LIFE, IF IT WASN'T FOR HER WHO CAME OUT OF A SUDDEN, I WOULDN'T BE HERE ANYMORE. JUST LOOK FOR YOURSELF TO JUDGE ABOUT WHAT HE HAD SAID TO ALL OF YOU.
    Length: ‎11:32

This 19 year old mother-to-be is caught on the horns of a dilemma...
if she stays with this husband,
she stays in the grip of an abusive relationship:
    if she divorces him,
she becomes a very young single mother,
and has to live with the stigma of being a divorcee.
She will have no social life, she has a child to look after,
she cannot continue her studies to get more qualification, she has a child to look after,
she cannot work, she has a child to look after,
she cannot hang out with her friends or travel she has a child to look after.
Let's say she dated him at 17,
     married him at 18
    and gets pregnant at 19,
in the three years why did not his abusive streak surface?
She cannot choose her siblings, but she can choose her husband,
    why did she choose him?
Let's say she brings up her child with much love
and nurtures him/her in the most loving environment,
(quite difficult without a strong, supportive loving father figure)
who is to say its violent streak will not one day surface  like her husband's?

So, to all my students and young people everywhere, do not get married too young and choose your mate carefully, get to know him really, really well, and there is such a thing as the condom from the friendly convenience store round the corner down the road, MAKE USE OF IT!!!!  Not only will you prevent unwanted and unplanned pregnancies, you also ward off STDs.

OH, and to all MOMS/sisters out there...keep a tight rein on your 12 and 13 year old daughters!!!
Don't let them befriend 19 to 21 year old MEN who will ravish, ravage and savage your
innocent daughter/sister and then get off SCOT FREE!!!!

    The Second case:
Abuse of Old Helpless woman : Inmate of Hospice

NIGHTINGALE NIGHTMARE: Tan Choo Waoh, the ex-director of a nursing home that was accused of mistreating an elderly female resident last year has been convicted. See the secret video that sparked the scandal, and find out what other charges Tan admitted to - http://bit.ly/RAkmMGLength: ‎0:21

I hope that when I am old and invalid, that I do not fall into the hands of such "caregivers" who are more like self-worth strippers....they strip you off any shred of self worth and dignity that you may have, nevermind that you were once someone's beloved wife, mother and teacher of thousands of kids.

The Art of Gifting

When I went back to my place after classes,
I saw this package on my desk....

On opening there was a box of cookies inside: it is still Hari Raya time

The message card says: to L.M.K, from Pn Zamdah
 Thanks for everything.....

A lovely box of assorted cookies, some home-made,
some store-bought;  for me to savour, cookie by cookie....

Out  of the nearly 10 office staff that I had given Hari Raya gifts to, she is the only one
who reciprocated with this gesture. When I gave the presents of dates and Tupperware (I am continuing Pn Lim, my ex colleaque's tradition;she used to collect money from us to share gifts of Tupperware for the office staff during Hari Raya), to them, I tried to make sure that each present suited each individual.

Do you know what the reaction of the staffers were?
You would not believe it, some of them complained!
"Kenapa saya punya kecil, dia punya besar?"
(Why is mine smaller, why is hers so big)
"Kenapa saya dapat tumbler, mereka dapat mangkuk"
(why did I get a tumbler, while they got bowls?)
and when I asked whether I had missed out anyone,
one said "Anak saya tak dapat"
(my daughter did not get one)
"Suami saya tak dapat"
(My husband did not get)!!!!!
NEXT YEAR THEY WON"T BE GETTING ANYTHING FROM ME!

Only a few of them thanked me, and only Pn Zamdah  immediately texted me to thank me personally:

Translation:   "Thank you, Madam Loo for the present. The Tupperware is lovely!"

Not only did she thank me, she accepted whatever Tupperware that I gave, and said it was nice.
And she was the only one who gave me back a PRESENT!!!!

She was also the one who readily helped me  fill up all my forms to be submitted for retirement,
calculated my "No MC and No Leave Taken : Golden handshake" formula;
let me use her printer, and checked all my data for me.

By the way, my tupperware were of different sizes because they were the unused, new ones from my own collection.......
