16 February 2017 Vocational Service Awards Nightn

I had a very successful run as the OC or Organising Chairman (person) for the awards night in my capacity as the Vocational Director. Actually, I had a lot of help!!!! The certificates were procured by the AG (Assistant Governor) all I did was buy the frames, but I did do the coordination, wrote all the scripts and programme and speeches and presented the awards.
This is a group photo of the award recipients and some of our guests for the night.  We as the organisers are seated in front.  The event was covered by a Chinese journalist and it appeared the very next day in a Chinese daily, Sin Chew Jit Poh as seen below:
Er...I can't read so much Chinese, but I did see my name in Chinese! They got me to write it for them the night before.

3 awards were given out: A certificate of appreciation to Shiok Kopitiam for providing much of the catering for our service projects
And the 2 main vocational awards went to the late Rev Tang and his spouse...they founded the House of Joy chain of orphanages and old folks home.

Rev Tang's spouse accepting the award for her husband who won it posthumously.  Tony is my able MC (he's an ex toast master trainer) reading from the script I prepared.

I presented the corporate award to Jimmy who accepted it on behalf of Alan who had gone to Bhutan to attend the RI Conference. Jimmy is damn tall and I am damn short, hahaha!
President Rina presented the main awards.
We had special food that night (handled by my food committee) and it was a departure from the usual fare.
Chocs and hors doevre ( don't know how to spell lah) brought by members
 punch by steven
YUM...Mexican Chicken chop from Shiok Cafe

 Creamy Mushroom vegetarian pasta

 fresh garden salad

keropok from president's recent trip to Kelantan

 guests for the night
Steven posing with me and the photog Steve said we are posing like mother and son, hehe!
Lots of posing...for once I am not the photographer, like I said, I have a lot of help: I have an mc, I have a photographer, a food committee ...unlike my Perkembangan Staff days in MBS where I did EVERYTHING including the food, photos, speeches THE WHOLE DAMN THING!!!

Even the flower and fruit basket was ordered by Jenny and delivered to the venue. It was a very successful night, eveything went smoothly, and I had a lot of praises for a job well done and organised!!!

Big Korean Bowl of Noodles

Our Korean Tour guide for this segment of our Korean Trip is Shin Miae. We do not have to look for our own dinner, she will source for a place for us!!!

After a full day of touring, she is bringing us for dinner.
She brought us walking the streets looking for a suitable place and there are only 3 of us!
See, she is our personal tour guide!
This place is too packed, look, there is even a queue outside the restaurant!
So we take selfie while she scouts around again
The locals always look busy and they mind their own business.
See our guide in red? She walks very fast!...we linger around street corners taking photos!
Must take photo with the locals who walk very fast and try to give us the wide berth!
Finally she found a cute place!
This is the exterior of the restaurant and as usual, I cannot decipher the words....so I stand here to remember the place.
We were presented with this huge plate of stewed chicken! Steaming, hot, aromatic, the pieces of chicken looked juicy simmering in the soya sauce packed with chili, ginger, carrots, spring onions, onions and zuchinni.

It was served with purplish rice, and no side dishes this time. except for pickled radishes.
Since she is our personal guide, she even eats with us!!

After eating the chicken pieces which are ample for 3 (you can see that there still so much chicken still) Miae told us that at the bottom there are see through flat noodles that are silently soaking up all the gravy and juices from the chicken!

The noodles are so long, a pair of scissors are provided for you to cut them!
Look at the transparent noodles...by itself it is bland but under all those chicken and gravy, it is now so yummy!

We continued eating the chicken, zuchinni and noodles.....but there was still a lot left!
So Miae "ta-pau"ed it for the driver!
Once again, the restaurant with the Big Bowl of chicken Noodles!

Korea: Palace Hotel ane Backlane BBQ Dinner 20 October 2016

We stayed at Palace Hotel and walked out in search of dinner for the night.
We found this place: aiyah, we can't read Korean and there isn't any English equivalent so here's the pic: the name of the eatery is on the menu.  We had the beef for W12,000 and squids for W2,000.
and soup for W8000(just point at the picture lo)
So, here's the squids, laid out on the wire rack to be barbecued...OUTSIDE the restaurant!

He's waving at me taking his photo,,,! and yes, he's on top of the drain with a mini bbq set and he's grilling our squids which gave off a heavenly aroma!
closer look at how he is doing it and note the gigantic chimney-like smoke sucker!
The wife gives us the beef which she will fix on our rota table top bbq (below)
The coals are reduced to embers...
Another helper fixes chimney (extensions) that goes up to the roof. while he watches, mouth agape!!! he is mighty impressed!
See, how cool is that?
Now we can grill the beef (actually they are self rotating and we do not need to do any grilling)!
and of course the side dishes!!
The squids are done, our soup is here, and our meal is complete!

Grand meal right? Fluffy white rice, beef, sotong, soup and side dishes!
 So nice!!!
A view of the tiny shop, the assistant is watching TV right behind us!!
The friendly shopkeeper is walking down the back alley and telling us where to find fruits, and other stuff down the alley.  Guess, it is still very safe to walk around alleys and not afraid of getting mugged or your bag snatched, unlike back home.
We stand in front of the shop with the name on it, so you can go try this wonderful place is you like!
We are now back in the hotel in one piece.....we feel very carefree and safe and we just had the most satisfying dinner.
 Palace Hotel coffee shop
The lobby, well, it is now late at night.....See ya next post!  I promise to be on time!
