Let the crepe creep into your heart

One day, I received an email and attachment from my brother in law Roger:

Hi every one out there,

Greetings from Singapore!
This is a bright spot in Aileen's ordinary life. She has been interviewed by "8 Days" mag recently for her achievement as a trainer in Marche' crepe.
Let us cherish her score in life. A little spark is better than no spark!
Cheers.
Roger

The attachment above was a page from a Singapore lifestyle magazine called "8 Days".  She is the best crepe maker in Marche, VivoCity!!!!

Old Mansion in Batu Pahat

Many years ago my sister had her picture taken by her teacher at this mansion
this is my sister and she is now in her 50's....she was here when she was in Std 5
my eldest sister in front of her friend's old mansion

here she is..was...when she was in Standard 5.......on the left she is pictured with her friend
She was dressed up by her teacher in a pretty white dress with a sash and holding  a bunch of flowers.
she was Teacher's pet back then, who thought she was very pretty, and loved to dress her up and take her photos!!!!
This is her class teacher who liked my sister
(my sister is seated right behind her)

Here she is now.... revisiting with her youngest daughter

This picture was taken when the mansion was still not so dilapidated and looked majestic and solid, don't you think?

Paan Meen Lunch

On Sunday, the 2 maids went out, so I ta pau Paan Meen from Taman Midah for lunch!

5 packets of Paan Meen (hey, I don't know what it is called in English)
So nice and nutricious (confort food)...egg, mushrooms, anchovies and flour noodles in soup
we like the noodles to be "mit" or torn off in irregular shapes!
and a type of vegetable that I used to eat when I was young, my mother called it "mali chai"
The girl will roll out the noodles for you, whether stringed or torn off ("mit")

Each serving is individually cooked in separate sauce pans of pre cooked soup
the cooking area is certainly nothing to look at! In fact it might put some people off!
More soup for the soup base!

Only this vegetable will do for this dish!
My childhood friend, that I have not tasted for close to 20 years.
except in Paan Meen,
a branch of the bamboo (I think it is called cekur manis in malay and I do not know the English version)
You run the stalks through your fingers and all the leaves drop out!!! The leaves are waterproof and you have to crush them a little, ever so gently so as not to smash them when you wash them. Oh! My childhood at the shop in Jalan Mohd Akil!

Filial Piety

Junior Tay has stayed with Senior Tay all his life and has looked after him for just as long...filial piety personified.

a simple outing to the barber's required a tremendous amount of effort
he loved my car...knew just where to grip to get in
when I changed to Exora, he lost his grip
his legs needed an extra push
closing the door was a tricky business too
at his favourite barber's
after he finished cutting his hair he waited for my car

Sundays were mostly dedicated to bringing him out for dinner

you can see from his back how increasingly frail be became with each passing year
this is 2009
2007, at Kaki Corner
you can see from his back how frail he became each passing year
loved fish and chips
2006 at Sakae Sushi
2005 at Cowboy Delight, Taman Desa Aman
2008, Loong Yee....btw, all my married life I have lived at his house
(I am the epitome of patience)
..........my kids grew up there.
