My 100th Post.....The Warlord of Terror...St Michael's Institution 57th Drama

Every year since 1954, St Michael's Institution, Ipoh, stages a lavish drama and this year we travelled all the way from Kuala Lumpur to catch it. The title this year is :"The Warlord of Terror" a chinese based play set in the Tang dynasty written by son of Timothy Chee, a prolific scriptwriter and director of this year's play. You name it, Timothy has staged it: Mulan, Joan of Arc, My Fair Lady, Oklahoma, West Side Story, Twelvth Night, Lady white Snake,Sound of Music...every conceivable play!!!!

The school in the evening..such an imposing facade...

We had to pay RM3 for the programme! beautiful artwork on folder and RM20 for tix

The hall..very ancient and no descending gradient, I took all my shots with telescopic lens

Show started promptly with impressive lighting and lavish props with innovative background, complete with dry ice and a waterfall

The narrator is an "old monk" who turned out to be a talented Form 2 boy!!!!!

More talents were unearthed: here an artist executed perfectly chinese rice paper drawing of lotus free hand

No chinese drama is complete without prancing lions which came out from behind the audience

The lau pai sin or general public aka the extras were pretty talented as they could mime with expressive eyes without uttering a single word

Who could resist the dancers? Not only were they adept with ribbons, they were dressed sexily too!!..teeny triangles for front tunics and backless barebacked tiny black spaghetti straps that teased and tittilated!!!

The learned scholar also turned out to be another Form 2 boy!!!

The damsel in distress, a Form Sixer not only acted but danced and sang as well!!!!

This is what I mean..the black spaghetti straps that hinted of  sauciness..drove me crazy.

When she danced, she removed her outer wear to reveal another triangular top that looked like the lingerie that I remembered chinese courtesans wore in their inner chambers, ooh la la

To represent the evilness, rap and hip hop dancers reeking of modernity thrilled the boys

The evil warlord had a really evil, evil, evil laugh, so sinister and frightening

Sigh!! They even had their own resident chinese orchestra who never missed a cue with their chinese instruments that I can not even name..maybe the er hu?

Kevyn Dexter had Kodak moments with the warlord and the princess...another warlord in the making, Kevyn???

Can our boys and our school stage such a drama? It's all in Pn Pauline's hands...I am in Public speaking, Nirmala is in Debating....Pauline?????
