Maserati

While going back to my car parked at KLCC, I saw this strange (to me) car...

To a noob like me, I cannot recognise this logo..
It was parked right next to my beat-up old jalopy

My Unser that had served me for more than 10 years
The insignia of the car close-up

To solve the mystery, I went to the back to have a look..
Oh!!! It's a Maserati!!!!!

My Pet Garden Snake

When I went back to my old Taman Midah house, I found the garden full of weeds. So I tried weeding it.

I pulled out this particular long weeds from a pot, and the whole clump of it came out, grass, plant (choked, dried and overwhelmed) soil (dried out ball of roots strangled by weeds) came clean from the pot.

The lallang that had overgrown and overpowered whatever original plant that was in there
Instead of the weeds coming out, the whole plant with the soil and grass (ball of root), came out

This is how the clump of roots, soil and weeds looked like in the pot....I was ready to toss it, but I wanted to save whatever soil that could be salvaged by shaking the soil to loosen it from the ball of roots....then I saw it...

Peering out from a hole within its secret hiding place in the crevices between the roots and soil
was my beautiful baby snake.
It looked so harmless and cute, that it became my pet. It was very still, snug inside a nice hole within the roots, soil and weeds. It was to be my secret, because if I tell my husband he will take a big stick and whack it to a pulp.
The next day I came back to check on it, IT WAS GONE!!!! The pot was also emptied!! Emelda had cleared up everything and destroyed my pet's home..

Footnote: My husband has a warning for all: Stay away from snakes, don't fool around with snakes, some smaller species are the most venomous: if they bite one, their venom travel through one's bloodstream very fast, crippling and killing one in seconds.
It happens in 2 ways: either the venom attack the nerves and the victim cannot breathe and die
or as in the case of vipers, the poison makes the blood unable to clot, the victim will bleed until die, with the blood unable to clot.

Marche

I have found some old Marche pictures when my sister was featured in a Chinese newspaper where she was interviewed and below were the pictures that her daughter sent to me:

View of Marche outlet at VivoCity, Singapore
Another section of the popular outlet, it seeks to recreate a Swiss feel

Here my sister is about to demonstrate to foreign Marche workers

It is not as easy as it looks...your hands have to be deft and sure

the battter has to be of the right consistency, thickness and you've got to work fast as the skillet is hot
then you have to wrap expertly or all the ingredients will fall out!
the right balance of fillings
no one can do it like she does
versatile: sweet crepes for dessert too
this is the picture used to blow up into the banner
now: 2011, her expertise is recognised and the banner using her photo to advertise for Marche is outside Food Republic on the way to Marche!
Last post, I asked the MBS students to go there, now, teachers, just say you are Pn Tay or Loo's colleague, and she will give you extra attention!!!!

PUTRAJAYA, 25 JAN, 2010: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today announced that 20 schools – 14 secondary and six primary – had been accorded the status of high performance schools or Sekolah Berprestasi Tinggi (SBTs).

Muhyiddin, who is also Education Minister, said of the 14 secondary schools, 10 were fully residential schools and the rest day schools.

“These schools were chosen from among schools that showed outstanding performance in the field of academia, co-curriculum and niche areas.
“The schools will be guided and monitored closely to ensure they continue to attain even higher levels of performance,” he told reporters at his office here today.

At the same time, Muhyiddin stressed that SBTs were not elite schools which benefited only a limited number of students.

Instead, he said each school in the country had the same opportunity and a level playing field to be recognised as SBTs.

“Any school that meets the targets of excellence and criteria set (by the Education Ministry) will be recognised as a SBTs and get the same privileges,” he said.
Muhyiddin said the ministry targeted to have 30 SBTs by next year and 50 in 2012.

He said the rationale in having SBTs was to raise the quality of the best schools in the country to be world class, produce outstanding students and narrow the gap between schools within the system.

He said SBTs would be given additional autonomy to pursue innovation in school management and raise the productivity of students.

As for curriculum, he said, it would be flexible in terms of teaching and learning as well as syllabi for compulsory and elective subjects, conforming to public examinations and use of the national language as the medium of instruction or multiple languages.

Beside these, Muhyiddin said the schools concerned were also given leeway in fixing the minimum periods for subjects, extending schooling hours and allowing students to complete their studies a year earlier, just like the express promotion system that was introduced previously.

In terms of budget ownership, he said a lump sum grant would be channelled to the schools at the beginning of each year and that they would have the full flexibility to spend as needed and were exempted from the ministry’s centralised procurement system.

“Every school has its own budget, but with this status, they will be given additional funds and they can use the money as needed,” he said, adding that the grant might be less than RM1 million but had not been fixed yet as this depended on the size of the SBT.

He also said management of staff at these schools would be based on meritocracy and not seniority, besides flexibility given for the paying of overtime and performance incentives.

“There will also be flexibility to re-assign under performing staff and delegation of functions based on academic and non-academic reasons,” he said.

21 Feb 2011 STPM Results are out

As the S/U Peperiksaan (Secretary of the Form 6 Examination) this is the first time I have come to the Jabatan Penilaian (Results Dept) at Jalan Duta to get the results for my school.

After a short wait, the window was opened and the school reps took the results slip and analysis
I took mine and before I went off, I saw Pn G (in white lace kebaya) in the queue behind me so I waited for her to get school's results, then we sat down to pore over the results. The night before we already knew that Ling is one of the 5 top National Scorers with a perfect score of 4 and will be getting his award at this time.

Then I went back to my school and students were waiting at the foyer.
Last year's Form Teachers busy preparing the files to put in leaving certs and testimonials for the ex-students together with their results.
We have three top scorers for the school. Total number of candidates is 24.
The Form 6 teachers of my school
Pn Jordhana and her friend comes to check out the results.
May Yi
Ameer, the star pupil
Full length shot of May Yi, she took Maths S
Ameer
Kuraisya
the other top scorer....Congratulations, all of you.
A rather subdued and quiet affair, I left and went back to teach my present Upper 6 class.

Gory End for Snatch Thief

This story in the STAR today is for my eldest daughter whose handbag got snatched from her car after they crashed her window screen at Bandar Tun Razak traffic lights, while she waited for lights to change 2 years ago, on her way to work, two months after MY own car windscreen (Unser) got smashed and my bags got stolen from my car.

KUALA LUMPUR: It was a gory end for a snatch thief who died with his private parts severed in a collision at Ampang Jaya here between his getaway motorcycle and the victim’s car.

The police and passers-by found the body of the 35-year-old suspect in a drain, with his penis almost crushed and detached from his body. His pants had been ripped from his body in the accident.

His accomplice, who was riding pillion, suffered body injuries
The incident happened soon after the 28-year-old victim was locking the gate to leave her home in Taman Mega Jaya in Ampang at around 8.30am yesterday. She had left the bag in her Toyota Vios, while the car engine was on.

A man suddenly appeared, opened the car door and snatched the bag. The woman tried to fight back but was kicked in the abdomen.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Amirruddin Jamaluddin said the woman then got into her car and gave chase before blocking them.

The two men were caught off-guard and rammed right into the victim’s car resulting in both of them being flung from the machine. The accident occurred about 200m from the woman’s house.

The snatch theft victim was not hurt in the incident.

ACP Amiruddin also said both men had valid driving licences but the motorcycle they were using was reported stolen.

Police are investigating if the suspects were involved in other criminal activities in the district.
