Satay Celup

What is the hype surrounding satay celup?

After the wedding reception of Lisa and Annuar, we had "Round Two" according to Ian, and we got out of our formal togs into street gear and went down town...

Long queue outside the shop!!!

Well, there's a story behind this late night escapade of course.  Uncle R and my sis had their honeymoon here 35 years ago and late Uncle Francis brought them to try SATAY CELUP.  So now it's a walk down memory lane as they took the whole gin gang down here to sample the delights of this culinary adventure.

Lots of testimonies and accolades on the wall

30 minutes and we were still waiting!

Almost there? no! still waiting!

AT last! it was our turn! Uncle R counted exactly 36 minutes, the time that we queued.

Happily Ian and his cousins made a beeline for the skewered goodies

Ian's pick!

A happy haphazard mish-mesh of scrumptious treats!

Ken's pick!

Does this neat arrangement reflect that the person who chose and arranged this is straight-laced and uptight????

Sandy's choice!
His pick was very interesting: it included intestines! (reminds me of my childhood when I actually ate intestines) pig's ear (cartilage) and blood cockles!!

Even after choosing the trays of food, we could not eat, had to wait for them to set the table

Unrevealed spices were dropped in and stirred: it is a trade secret, they refused to let me photograph the ladles of spice powder...as if from looking at the picture you can tell what spice is what..pfffft

they brought the stuff, green plates are free

miserable tiny green plates of cucumber are the only thing free

colour coded plates which have different costs..

every so often they replenish and stir the satay gravy for you

while we were busy dipping, this table is still waiting for the hot pot! By then even Brandon had the time to drive from KL to join us!

At last it's here.  I supposed even after the wedding banquet, all the queueing and then the waiting makes you hungry already

see, we are already half through

then, when you have taken your fill, they dump a handful of these on your tray: also 80 sen: tiger prawns, abalone (the outside) scallops and squids (more expensive stuff that they hide from you)

prawns looked fresh, you would not be charged for those that you do not take

even after we had nearly finished eating, the crowd had not abated, and the hour was late, but the queue had not let up.

I have heard of satay celup from my Malaccan friends since university days, but this is the first time I had actually tasted it.  Thanks to Uncle R and his nostalgic pangs that took him down this trip!

DON'T BE MISLED!  NO BROTHERS AND SISTERS!!!!
